Adjust Your Workstation to Improve Posture

Take the time to adjust your workstation. This can help prevent pain and discomfort.
Two positions are possible while working at your computer:

  • Keyboard on a keyboard tray, at level lower than the desk surface.
  • Keyboard on the work surface.

The first step is to adjust the height of your chair so that your elbows are at the same height as the keyboard (while sitting on the chair).

Your eyes are at the same level as the top of the screen.

An arm-length of distance between you and the screen.

Shoulders relaxed; wrists straight - avoid hyper- extending your wrists.

Forearms resting on the armrests, elbows flexed at a 90° angle. The height of the keyboard is at the elbow level (and therefore, at armrest height). The mouse is at the same level as the keyboard.

Backrest tilted at an angle of  between 90° to 120°.

Knees at a 90° angle. Back of the knees free.

Feet flat on the floor or flat on a footrest.
